Bear with Me
Whether it’s displaying some whacky art for the world to see, or calling ‘runners’, ‘sand shoes’, we like to do things differently in lutruwita/Tasmania. This route is no different.
Known as ‘Commando’, this route takes you through the foothills of kunanyi, taking in some of the best parts of Tasmanian scenery. We have added a little detour onto a beautiful section of gravel which overlooks Bruny Island, however the beauty of a ‘commando’ is that you can lengthen and shorten the ride in many different ways.
Route Overview
A rugged loop through kunanyi/Mount Wellington’s lesser-known backroads, the Commando Loop is a tough but rewarding ride that throws steep gradients, quiet forestry gravel, and striking alpine views into the mix.
Ride Notes
Tackle this loop anti-clockwise for more manageable climbs and a thrilling descent.
Be prepared: sections can be remote with no services — bring snacks, water, and spares.
Ride conditions vary with weather; after rain, expect some slippery roads.
Local Insight
This is a route that punches above its distance. It’s short but intense, often used for training and personal challenges by local riders. Expect solitude, scenery, and a very real sense of adventure.
