The meaning behind the merchandise…

Eloise Daintree is a 24 year old plangermaireener/ trawlwoolway woman (she/her), from lutruwita, Tasmania. We first engaged Eloise at the beginning of the year as we wanted to create some cycling kit that in some way illustrated place and had a larger significance than simply printing a 'brand kit'. I told Eloise my story, my connection to the Huon Valley and how the business, my love for cycling and the Huon Valley are all so closely entangled within one another. I wanted to give Eloise some direction, but also to allow her creative freedom go wild. And I believe together, we created something beautiful. And I hope she is just as proud as I am for what she has created!

ARTIST STATEMENT

This artwork ‘Rivers’ depicts the flowing interconnectedness of the southern region of lutruwita through bodies of water. Rivers is an amalgamation of personal stories extending from the Huon River, further south to areas such as Dover and Lune River.

As a teenager, I spent a lot of time on the southern rivers rowing for my school team. It was the moments after races as I awaited for my turn to disembark, that I would find myself getting lost within the ripples of the water, the dense reeds lining the banks and reaching branches, that tranquility and peace was reached.

As a Plangermaireener woman, I would like to acknowledge that the traditional owners of these southern areas are the Melukerdee and Lyluequonny people.

As an indigenous artist, I produce works that convey personal stories of connection to place, as well as a broader understanding and representation of the country of which I live and practice.

Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
