Some variation of a channel loop is our absolute favourite. This loop is the loop that made us fall in love with riding and led us to eventually living in Cygnet, where we now reside. We’re often considered bias, but we think this loop has a beautiful combo of tree lines, flowing roads and, very importantly, our favourite bakery!
Route Overview
A local favourite for a reason, the Short Channel Loop is a scenic cruise through the quiet roads of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. Expect rolling hills, water views, and minimal traffic — the ideal weekend spin or weekday unwind.
Ride Notes
There are lots of variations to this loop. It can be ridden both clockwise and counter-clockwise. The Channel Highway can get busy, particularly during the summer months. It is best to leave early or use a few gravel side roads if you’re not comfy.
We love a Pelverata detour if you don’t feel comfortable on faster roads.
A great option for group rides or a big solo mission.
Local Insight
This is the ride we come back to again and again — just enough climbing to feel accomplished, but not so much that it steals your legs. It’s a perfect “reset” loop, especially in the golden light of late afternoon.
