The Best Way to Experience Tasmania by Gravel
This isn’t just a collection of great rides — it’s a true crossing of Tasmania.
You’ll start with the state’s most iconic climbs, ride through the northeast’s quiet backroads, then traverse the remote central highlands all the way to Hobart.
Each day builds on the last — creating a journey that feels complete.
If you want to experience Tasmania properly — this is the ride.
Part I: Iconic Climbs of Tasmania – 5 Days
Hobart → Launceston → Jacobs Ladder → Derby → Mount Barrow
Starting in Hobart, we transfer north before riding through Tasmania’s most iconic terrain — from alpine climbs to quiet backroads and epic climbs
-
Shake out your legs on a gentle ride from Launceston to the charming village of Evandale. Overnight at the beautiful Leighton House, set in historic surrounds.
-
Today is a true highlight — we take on the iconic gravel climb up Jacobs Ladder in Ben Lomond National Park. It's the climb on every mainlander's lips, and for good reason. The switchbacks are breathtaking, the views even more so. After the summit, we descend through the highlands and enjoy a long, satisfying lunch, the perfect way to toast your effort. An unforgettable day of Tasmanian elevation, elegance, and endurance.
Distance: 30–110km | Elevation: 1,200 - 2,000m
-
Ride through rolling hills and peaceful farmland en route to Derby, a quaint village nestled in the northeast. Explore local trails and enjoy a relaxed evening.
Distance: 120km | Elevation: 2,100m
-
Ride through dense myrtle forest and tackle smooth gravel roads to reach Tasmania's east coast. Swim at Binalong Bay, recharge with a beachside lunch, and ride (or shuttle) back to Derby. End the day with a recovery session in the floating sauna or an optional stretching and breath session.
Distance: 65km | Elevation: 1,300m
-
Conquer Mount Barrow before returning to Launceston. A final climb to cap off the Iconic Climbs tour, rewarding you with panoramic highland views.
Distance: 70–95km | Elevation: 1,000–2,000m (optional)
Rest Day - Launceston Exploration
-
Take a well-earned rest. Explore Launceston, visit local cafes, or enjoy the peaceful small city surroundings before the next adventure.
Part II: Cross Tassie Gravel - 3 Days
Epic highland country, Hydro beauty and wrap up the tour with an Agrarian Kitchen experience.
-
Arguably the most epic day — We think this region is severely under valued, so we find any excuse we can to head to the highlands! Ride through Tasmania’s highlands, climb to vast alpine plateaus, and work your way into the World Heritage protected region of the Great Lakes. Think wide views, wild weather, and pure riding solitude. You'll finish tired, happy, and deeply satisfied.
Distance: 110km | Elevation: 1,700m
-
Gravel ride through highland trails and alpine scenery. Experience the region’s rugged beauty as you journey toward Tarraleah.
Distance: 125km | Elevation: 1,600m
-
We finish strong — and epic. Riders wanting the full final-day experience will set off for an epic through Tasmania’s remote interior.
Highlights include a regroup at Meadowbank and a long lunch at the renowned Agrarian Kitchen in New Norfolk — one of Tasmania’s most celebrated paddock-to-plate dining experiences. Expect big rides, big smiles, and the end of the Cross Tassie segment.
Distance: 110km | Elevation: 2,000m
