A challenging ride through raw Tassie backcountry.

Ride Overview

This route is not for the faint-hearted — but it is for those who want to experience the quiet, rugged backroads that make southern Tasmania so special.

Starting in Collinsvale, you’ll hit a steep gravel climb early on that earns you fast access to a rolling ridgeline and views over the Derwent Valley. Moogara is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it locality, but it marks the start of your descent into the valley, where rural charm and big skies take over.

The terrain changes quickly, and so does the mood — from forested climbs to sweeping farmlands and open gravel. Expect to feel a little remote out here (you are), so ride prepared.

Route Highlights

  • Quiet backroads with barely any traffic

  • Steep gravel climbs + epic descents

  • True Tassie wilderness with that "middle-of-nowhere" feel

  • Perfect for gravel or adventurous spirits

Tips Before You Go

  • We love this ride on a road bike, but you might feel a little bit more comfy on wider tyres if you’re not used to gravel - the gravel can be a little bit slippy during peak summer.

  • Limited water and resupply points — take more than you think you need

  • Good weather days make this route much more enjoyable

Why We Love It

It’s raw. It’s quiet. It’s the kind of loop you only do with good legs and a full bottle, but it gives you something no coastal ride can — a deep dive into Tasmania’s wilder side.
