Every tour we undertake is special in its own right.
As such we like to reflect upon the tour that was.
This tour came about by a local Tasmanian, Julia, who had joined us on our first tour post Covid. Originally from Canberra, Julia wanted to explore Tasmania with a group of mates from her cycling group back in Canberra, FIT (Females In Training)…. and obviously we knew a pretty good way of making that happen.
Julia gave me a few little boxes to tick and a timeframe of 5 days… the rest all came down to me. In our, not at all bias opinion, Tassie is pretty spectacular, so it’s not too hard to put together something that can knock peoples socks off.
For us, designing a tour isn’t just about the ride itself. While a lot of time goes into perfecting a route, we spend as much, if not more time ensuring each day flows smoothly. We want to not only tick off , but have enough time to enjoy little pockets of each region… and of course spend a lot of time scouting and testing for the best food and accommodation selections.
Scenery
There aren’t many places in Tassie where we can’t find a bit of magic. Sometimes that’s a beach, often times, that’s a hill and some forest. Either way, we know what we’re looking for.
Bay of Fires Bush Retreat
For us, Bay of Fires Bush Retreat is one of those places that simply know how to show off Tassie.
Not only do they provide a luxury glamping experience, they also create a space and atmosphere which really highlights Tasmania.
ghost rock
We don’t keep it a secret… we have a bit of a soft spot for Ghost Rock, because boy do they know how to do food, atmosphere and wine. And what else would we want at the end of a ride?
Our final day of this 5 day tour took us over Golden Valley and into the Central Highlands. A Hors category climb, Golden Valley is something truly spectacular. I absolutely love this climb no matter the weather… the weather man did its best to test our Canberra crew.
At the top of the climb we regrouped in the warmth of the bus and I discussed the conditions for the remaining 25kms to the pub. I think the words went something along the lines of 'if you think this is windy, it will get worse and if you think this is cold, it will get colder... basically it will be shit'. Apparently we still had three tough yakkas who were mighty keen to earn their pub meal. And by golly did they earn it! I don't think these ladies are going to forget the last day of their trip in a hurry... but this is Tassie after all.
As always, THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE who CAME ALONG on our 5 day custom tour of tas!
If you’re interested in a predesigned tour we have scheduled tour dates on our website, or contact us to design a custom tour with a group of mates!
